Presentation
Unlike the wars of 1870 and 1939–1945, the city of Orléans was spared the fighting and destruction of the First World War. Like many other French cities, Orléans remained behind the front line. It played a part in the vast war effort and general mobilisation that affected the entire country, with every aspect of life organised towards achieving victory.
